Open ESM
OpenESM is an open source software effort that combines several of the best open source systems management and monitoring tools available, the experience of the best systems management professionals in the market and a big picture view of systems management in the enterprise. The authors understand ITIL and maintain ITIL certifications to better fit the product set with the IT Service Management processes (ITSM). Additionally, they provide plugin modules for some of the leading commercial products like IBM Tivoli Monitoring (TM) and Mercury Sitescope (TM). Some of these modules include pre-configured sets of monitors, rules and other ESM related software.
What's the
big picture?
Many people think that because they are monitoring a resource,
that's it - they are done. Not so. ESM or Enterprise Systems
Management is the monitoring, warehousing, reporting (SLA,
Availability, Performance), correlation, notification and
relationship management or all IT resources.
So what is
OpenESM offering?
Right now, OpenESM has OpenESM for Monitoring v1.3. This release of
the software is a combination of Zabbix, Apache, Simple Event
Correlation and MySQL. Out of the box, it provides monitoring -
warehousing of monitoring data - SLA reporting - correlation and
notification.
So what's
the catch?
No catch, the software is open source. OpenESM makes available
services and support for the OpenESM software at reasonable prices.
Example - a company with up to 500 servers/devices can be supported
for approximately $15,000 (USD). This figure is substantially less
than any commercial software. We do not care about CPU counts or
whether this is a server or network device.
